CHARACTER FACTS
» Name: Lawrence Hill
» Canon: Boys Next Door
» Reference: The wiki sucks, so if you’ve got the time, the manga is only three chapters long!
» Canon Point: post series; as such, this app is riddled with spoilers! If you haven't read it yet, I'd ask that you please do so that none of this comes as a surprise.
» Gender: male through and through.
» Age: 14; aged up to 18. He was forced to grow up early, so mentally he's closer to early to mid 20's, I'd say.
CHARACTER INTERPRETATION
» Appearance: In his canon, Lawr is a somewhat short boy with long brown hair and "dead eyes", as Adrian says. He has long limbs and pale skin, and is very pretty. Upon aging up, he'd likely retain most of those qualities; he'd be a little taller, maybe the slightest hint of muscle to his slender frame, rather than just being a pretty porcelain doll. He'd still be pretty, probably with longer hair past his shoulders, but his face would be slightly more narrow and mature as well, with narrower eyes. His body type suggests that, had he been allowed to grow up in the series, he likely would have been a lovely androgynous type creature rather than a big bara or a brodude. So I’d like to keep that quality about him, if it’s all right c:
Other than that, he's got a tattoo of an iguana on his left pectoral, over his heart. It was the mark of his brother's whorehouse, and he'd definitely still have it. The only difference would likely be that, since that's where Adrian stabbed and killed him, there would be a scar running through it. (I played him for a little while yeeeaaars ago, it's a neat little detail I'd like to keep...)
» Orientation: Gay. He only ever sleeps with men in canon, and there is no evidence of his having any sort of attraction to women, stated or otherwise.
» Personality: As cruel as it is, I think it's pretty safe to say that Lawr was pretty broken right from the start. He tells Vicky, one of Adrian's students, that his parents had never had any time for him, that they'd always doted on his older brother Dallas. Lawr was guilty of this too, clinging to him in admiration and coming to him for the attention his parents never gave. So when Dallas vanished, a nine year old Lawr ran away as well not long after to find him. Imagine his shock and horror at finding that his "perfect" big brother had gotten involved with drugs, prostitutes, and violence. It isn't explicitly stated, but given how cruel Dallas is shown to be in the manga, it's probably safe to assume that he began selling Lawr not long after that.
So already, Lawr had a pretty bad life. His parents neglected him, his only source of comfort abandoned him, and when he found that source again, the man abused him. He was forced to mature far too early, and it's left him with a kind of jaded view about the world and himself. Lawr believes that people are akin to insects, crawling around in the dirt and trying to make a space for themselves before procreating and inevitably dying. He doesn't see himself as any better than the rest of them, possibly even worse since he can't even follow the same path. He belongs (belonged) to Dallas; his life no longer belonged to him.
He mentions to Adrian how much he hates sex, and why shouldn't he? He was sold into prostitution at a young age and hasn't been allowed to know any happiness outside of that since. So Lawr did what any victim would do: he developed coping mechanisms in order to be able to live with it. He began to enjoy sex, the sensations it brought, while simultaneously hating the people he was with for wanting to perform the act with him. Probably the only person he hates more than himself, more than the men willing to pay to have sex with a minor, is his brother Dallas for ever having forced him into the situation in the first place. He hates himself most of all though, for not being able to get away and letting himself get caught up in it. That's not to say that he hasn't tried to escape; he has, it's just that every time he tries, he gets beaten and whoever was helping him gets killed. It's easy to see that he'd give up hope and become depressed, possibly even start wanting to die.
From his first appearance in the manga, when he sees Adrian kill the other prostitute, he doesn't scream, doesn't try to stop him. He just watched with an empty look in his eyes. Once you read through to the end, when he thanks Adrian for "freeing" him, you kind of come to realize that maybe he was jealous of that other boy. Adrian's serial killings were definitely news by that time - Lawr was his seventh and final victim - so he had to have known what was going on.
Of all the people in his life, Adrian is the one who matters most to him. He's just as damaged and broken as Lawr is, and somehow their broken pieces fit together to make each other whole. He'd seen Adrian before in passing by the school and always noticed his sad smile. When he found the nametag for Wolfie at the scene of the sixth murder, he saw it as an opportunity to get involved and asked Adrian to free him. They fixed each other and mended their hearts and were the sweetest most depressing couple in the world )8
That's why, when Dallas' men finally found him and came to take him back, he was willing to protect Adrian at the cost of his own life. He put up with whatever tortures Dallas shoved at him in an attempt to keep his brother from coming after Adrian in person and making his life miserable as well. He was the only connection between the two, and if Dallas didn't have the nametag Lawr kept to connect Adrian to the crime, then if he were out of the way, Adrian would be free from Dallas. So he coerced Adrian into killing him, thereby setting the both of them free.
